Since 2020, the Center for Online Learning in collaboration with ACERT (Academic Center for Excellence in Research and Teaching) has offered Week Zero Camp several times and over 60 instructors at Hunter College have participated. It is a multi-day professional development event, usually held in June and January of the year, for full-time and part-time instructors who want to build a complete orientation module for their courses. Participants especially appreciate the hands-on nature of the event, the individual support, and the opportunity to work and receive feedback on their modules. This website contains some of the materials shared at Week Zero Camp.
During the 3-day camp, participants
- build an entire “week zero” module for a future course in Blackboard
- use different technology tools and Blackboard features to create ice-breaking activities, record a welcome video, and design course orientation guides
- develop course participation and communication plans
- curate and/or create edTech resources for students
- exchange ideas with faculty from different disciplines
